FANUC continues to develop intelligent robots, including the industry-leading R-2000iA. During the past year, FANUC developed a function for finding and picking up the intended item from randomly piled parts with the aid of a vision sensor. FANUC also developed a function for parts assembly that uses a force sensor to "feel" the fitting of parts in the robot gripper. The application of intelligent robots capable of autonomous operation will help to develop new markets for machining and assembly applications. Intelligent robots also help to reduce facility costs by allowing longer unmanned operation hours.

FANUC has newly developed a 3.3kW output type YAGROBOT, in addition to the 4.4kW type. The YAGROBOT guarantees 20,000 hours of LD (semiconductor laser) module life, providing a highly reliable laser processing system for automotive body production lines. Compared to conventional lamp-pumped YAG lasers, the FANUC LD YAG laser reduces electricity consumption by about 70%, contributing significantly to energy savings on the production floor.
